Veterinary Nurse – Specialist surgery
Full or part time
JOB DESCRIPTION:
MPL, JPS, DPO, TPLO, PDA, PU – do these acronyms make your heart flutter? If so, we want to talk to you! We are looking for a Veterinary Nurse with a passion for surgery to join our collaborative Specialist Surgical team.
We are looking for positive, friendly and adaptable nurses, who will contribute to the incredible workplace culture we strive for.

We are a rapidly-growing referral centre with Specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Dermatology. About the Role
Our surgical nurses are superstars! They work in a very fast-paced environment and act as the patient advocate – ensuring each and every surgical patient receives optimal care, from admission through to discharge. We perform a huge range of procedures, from routine orthopaedics to emergency surgeries, laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures, spinal surgery, and so much more. The surgery team works very closely with our other Specialities to provide coordinated, comprehensive care. Surgical nurses are often also involved in advanced imaging procedures such as ultrasound or CT scans.
About You
Our ideal nurse will meet the following criteria:
- Cert IV Veterinary Nursing qualification (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years experience
- Solid general nursing skills, including venepuncture, catheter placement and anaesthetic monitoring
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Enjoy working as part of a collaborative team
- Friendly communication skills and able to work well under pressure
- Specialist Surgery nursing experience preferred, but not required, enthusiasm and positive attitude go a long way

About the role
Our internal medicine nurses are superstars! The medicine team performs a wide range of procedures and also closely collaborate with our other specialities to provide coordinated, comprehensive care. Medicine nurses are often involved in endoscopy and fluoroscopy studies as well as advanced imaging procedures such as ultrasound and CT scans, administering medical treatments, while also performing a vital role in client communication and education.
About you
Our ideal nurse will meet the following criteria:
- Cert IV Veterinary Nursing qualification (or equivalent)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience
- Solid general nursing skills, including venepuncture, catheter placement and anaesthetic monitoring
- Love the thrill of medical detective work
- Enjoy working as part of a collaborative team
- Have excellent, friendly communication skills and work well under pressure
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Specialist Internal Medicine nursing experience preferred, but not required, enthusiasm and positive attitude go a long way

Are you a diplomat or equivalent (ACVR/ECVDI/FANZCVS) Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging? Registered or eligible for Specialist Registration with the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council? About us
We are a rapidly-growing referral centre with specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Exotics, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, and Diagnostic Imaging. We provide assessment, diagnostics and treatment for over 60 local GP clinics. Staffed by fabulous, highly experienced Vets and Nurses, we pride ourselves in maintaining a close-knit team, while providing exceptional service. This makes our clients feel as though their pet is as important to us, as it is to them. We are extremely excited to have recently moved into our new purpose built facility, equipped for even more of the services and treatments we love to provide to the community.
About this role
Collaboration is our middle name and you will work alongside all departments to deliver the best possible patient outcomes. With in-house ultrasonography, computed tomography, digital radiology, fluoroscopy and endoscopy, our hospital is well equipped with the toys you would expect in a specialist and referral hospital. We have a 64-slice GE CT machine, 2x standing ultrasound units (GE Logiq & Vivid S60N), 2x mobile ultrasound units (Esoate and Mindray), Canon CXDI DR Radiography Unit, a Philips BV Pulsera Fluoroscopy unit, cage-side mobile x-ray unit and access to off-site 1.5T MRI. In addition, our hospital is also equipped with ventilators, a full surgical suite (with 4 theatres), and full in-house laboratory. This role is varied and exciting, working in collaboration with our team of specialists and experienced emergency and critical care vets.
About you
An awarded Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or equivalent veterinary degree registrable in NSW. Board Certified or Board Eligible, suitable for or registered as a specialist such as: Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, or equivalent Diplomat status in the American College of Veterinary Radiology, or in the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging.
